It feels like it’s been a while since Qualcomm’s premium audio technology. That’s precisely why, at Snapdragon Summit, the company announced the next generation of Snapdragon Sound.
This afternoon, Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2. Its press release positions the Sound Elite Gen 2 as a “premium audio platform purpose-built for personal AI…” Qualcomm states that it combined on-device AI, cloud-connected capabilities, and “industry-leading” audio tech for this new chip. However, it’s the audio power of the Sound Elite Gen 2 that’s the main focus.
Qualcomm says it’s reworked the new chip to feature immersive, “high-fidelity” audio for wireless devices. Consumers should notice these improvements while listening to music, voices, shows/movies, games, and more. The chip’s aptX Lossless support delivers “bit-for-bit” music streaming, meaning you won’t miss a beat and every sound is delivered with clarity.

Qualcomm is reportedly confident that this higher-quality sound will remain consistent over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the other hand, you have Qualcomm’s AI that can reportedly “continuously respond to the user.” The AI will account for your activity and your environment while you’re listening to ensure everything remains clear. Adaptive ANC (active noise cancellation) and “context-aware listening” are two major hallmarks. The chip’s AI is also fully capable of taking user requests.

Qualcomm Sound
With everything new and improved Qualcomm’s worked on, there’s a concern about the toll on our phones. The company states the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 features “up to 40% lower power consumption” compared to previous generations. What’s more, Qualcomm sees the chip headed to “intelligent hearables.” Such devices include premium AI earbuds, open-ear devices, audio glasses, camera buds, hearing and wellness devices, and AI wearables.
Other areas include qobuz, cinemo, and more. Much of the Sound Elite Gen 2’s AI assistance is enhanced by its Wi-Fi 6E support. Qualcomm says this offers direct-to-cloud connectivity that “makes always-on personal AI” possible. The post states this is more “practical,” as to not compromise your battery life and audio listening experience.
