OnePlus 16 looks ready to impress, but its biggest problem isn’t the hardware

What you need to know

  • A new rumor suggests the OnePlus 16 will retain the OnePlus 15’s flat display and compact square camera module.
  • The launch could slip to October, with the latest leak pushing back earlier expectations of a September debut.
  • Flagship hardware is shaping up to be a standout, with rumors pointing to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, a huge 9,000mAh battery, and a 200MP telephoto camera.

OnePlus may be pulling out of major international markets, but that hasn’t stopped leaks from giving us a clearer picture of its next flagship. New information suggests that the OnePlus 16 won’t be trying to reinvent the company’s design language, but it could still launch with enough hardware upgrades to turn heads, at least for buyers in China.

Reliable leaker Digital Chat Station says the OnePlus 16 will be very similar to the OnePlus 15. The phone is said to retain a flat 6.78-inch display with super-thin bezels and a small square camera island on the back, continuing the design change OnePlus adopted with its current flagship after years of sporting big circular camera modules.
