Early this morning (U.S. time), Honor revealed its latest Pro Max flagship phone in China. The device is focused on “Cinema Heritage” as the company strengthens its ARRI partnership.
The OEM detailed the launch of the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max this morning (Sept. 28). James Li, CEO of Honor, said, “The HONOR Magic Series was born for creation, using technology to nurture and empower the creativity within each of us.” To get creative, Honor said it took inspiration from the three-lens ARRIFLEX cameras. This facilitates a 1+2 camera array. The main lens is larger to the left of the other two cameras (positioned vertically).
The Magic 9 Pro Max features a 6.8-inch OLED display with up to 10,000nits of peak brightness. Honor also reached for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip for the device.

The Magic 9 Pro Max’s cameras take center stage like no other flagship. Honor puts its continued ARRI cinematic imaging partnership front and center, highlighting the phone’s 200MP main sensor.
Honor states this is a “200MP Ultra Night Main Camera” with an f/1.57 aperture, OIS (optical image stabilization), and three-degree gimbal-level stabilization. It pairs this with a 200MP Ultra Night telephoto lens and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Honor has included its in-house Imaging Chip H1 to help retain photographic detail, texture, and more. However, with ARRI involved, things go further.
Honor states it brought ARRI Image Science to “capture, color management, and real-time preview.” When it comes to ARRI Cinema Mode, consumers will find support for (up to) 4K 60fps recording. Elsewhere, Honor says Cinematic Live Video will “capture a three-second moving moment after the user presses and holds the record button.”

Honor continues its cinematic ambitions with the Magic 9 Pro Max by drawing attention to its speakers. The phone is equipped with Stereo Dual 1216 speakers for all your playback needs. What’s more, Honor says creators can find additional “cinema-grade” tools for the phone, such as a SmallRig Mobile Video Kit.
We’re busy focusing on the cameras, but Honor says that’s not all. The Magic 9 Pro Max packs an 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery. This cell supports 100W wired SuperCharging and 80W wireless charging. MagicOS 11 (Android 17), which reportedly advances the brand’s on-device AI, YOYO. The existence of YOYO Memory helps users capture content, alongside organization tools for easy rediscovery.
The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max launched in China today (Sept. 28) with four RAM/storage configs: 12/256GB, 12/512GB, 16/512GB, and 16/1TB. Consumers will find the phone in Shadow Black, Glacier Silver, and Moss Green. The phone starts at RMB 6,499 (~$968).
Honor says the phone will roll out in “other key international markets,” but an official announcement on that is coming soon.
