Today (July 22), Samsung held its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, U.K., to discuss what’s next for its portfolio. Headlining the event are the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9. The latter is where we’re beginning this early morning. Samsung stressed during its keynote that the Galaxy Watch 9 is the “ultimate everyday companion.” The watch has been upgraded for consumers who take their health seriously and are looking to “build healthy habits.”
The Galaxy Watch 9’s design sticks close to what we received with the Galaxy Watch 8. The device offers that squircle design: a circular watch face atop a square frame. However, Samsung states the Watch 9 has been equipped with a “lightweight, yet durable chassis.” The watch has been refined for a closer fit against your wrist that is intended to feel more natural, enhancing comfort.

Internally, Samsung revealed that the Galaxy Watch 9 features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite chip. The SoC’s major highlights include improvements to the device’s speed and efficiency, reducing the lag users might experience when swiping through the watch’s UI. It also goes without saying that the Wear Elite SoC will help the Watch 9’s 390mAh battery, too.
Unpacking Samsung’s health features, the company states the Galaxy Watch 9 features a BioActive sensor, which captures “continuous biometric data about a user’s lifestyle habits to develop a deep understanding of their wellness.” Users will find features like Sleep Apnea (FDA clearance-backed), Daily Cardio Score, Fitness Index, and Hearing, helping to protect their ear health.
What’s more, Samsung reminds us of Vitals and Heart Health Score. Many might remember these two (the Hearing feature, too) from the Health app’s huge update in June. Vitals will “proactively” watch the user’s health baseline while they sleep to provide alerts about deviations. The Heart Health Score focuses on your cardiovascular wellness with a simple score that helps users understand if they should “take action.”
If you’re looking at the Galaxy Watch 9, Samsung says you’ll find an assortment of new bands. Consumers can pick from Sports, Misty, and Fabric bands. Each offers a different experience, ranging from the thin, soft all-rounder Sports band to the soft silicone Misty band for a stable, bounce-free fit.
The Galaxy Watch 9 comes in 40mm and 44mm variants, starting at $379 for its Bluetooth model and $429 for its LTE version. Pre-orders begin July 22 before its full market launch on August 7. Samsung Care Plus is available to help protect your watch from damage, but there are extra goodies for consumers. A 60-day trial for Strava and a two-month iFIT free trial are available for the Galaxy Watch 9 after purchase.
Galaxy is going Ultra (2)
The bigger, rugged-oriented Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is finally here. Samsung is calling the Watch Ultra 2 its “most powerful and advanced Galaxy Watch ever.” Extreme outdoor shenanigans and users who live for high-performance activities are who the Watch Ultra 2 is designed for. While the device sticks to a familiar squircle design, the company states it has achieved a “thinner, innovative” build. The Watch Ultra 2 is thinner by ~12% compared to the first version. There have also been improvements to make it lighter, too.
Runners and climbers might also benefit from the watch’s shock-resistant titanium casing.
Inside, the wearable features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite SoC and a huge 800mAh battery (a 35% boost over the first version). There are several activities the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 supports, but this update has divers in mind. To aid professional divers, Samsung says the watch is rated IP69K, 10 ATM, and EN13319 certified. The Watch Ultra 2 will track your diving data (depth, time, water temp) from the moment you enter the water.
Samsung has created an Ultra-exclusive Diving app that users can lean on for advanced features. The company states the app will be available later in 2026. For all the landlubbers, Trail Run is a Watch Ultra 2 feature that “tracks detailed elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact…” Real-time hydration guidance is provided via Nutrition Alert, pairing nicely with Sweat Loss.
Like the Galaxy Watch 9, the Watch Ultra 2 features an assortment of new bands: Marine, PeakForm, and Trail. Samsung Care Plus and the free trials for Strava and iFIT are also available for purchased Galaxy Watch Ultra 2s. Consumers will find the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 for $699 for its 47mm size. You will also be able to choose between Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray colorways.
Pre-orders begin July 22 ahead of a full release on August 7.
