October 8, 2026:

Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell would come out of retirement to fight Conor Benn without hesitation.
Campbell, who took gold at London 2012, fought at the highest level as a pro too, boxing Vasiliy Lomachenko and Ryan Garcia in an impressive professional career.
Benn incurred Campbell’s wrath when he disparaged the Olympic champion’s performance against Garcia.
Campbell hasn’t boxed since that fight in 2021. But goaded by Benn, he would make a return.
“Once it’s in your blood, it’s in your blood,” Campbell told Sky Sports. “I’m not officially making a comeback, but I’m in training as always and if there was an opportunity that presented itself then I would take it.”
Campbell is now the mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire. But boxing is remains on his mind. “I still think about it. There’s combinations flying through my head all the time. Not as much it used to but still,” he said.
“I think boxing’s one of the only sports that brings you in the present moment. Your mind can’t afford to drift backwards or forwards. You’ve got to be in the moment.”
He wouldn’t hesitate to fight Benn. “100 percent. If it came my way, definitely,” Campbell said. “I haven’t called anyone out. He was insulting me and I just responded to that.
“Everything’s gone from there really. I would definitely entertain it.”
Even now, after all these years out, Campbell, who boxed down at lightweight, is convinced he’d take out Benn, a welterweight looking to move back up through the divisions.
“I don’t know what was going through his head or what level he thought he was at [when he fought Garcia]. I don’t know what the boxing IQ was or what the game plan was,” Campbell said.
“It would be the same result [with me as with Garcia], probably a knockout. I don’t know if it would be two rounds but it would be the same result.”
