This year, there is no exclusive LEGO minifigure at San Diego Comic Con. There are rumours bouncing around that these exclusive minifigures might never return, and that is terrific news for everyone who is not physically at San Diego Comic Con.
Previous years have seen characters like Cowboy Deadpool, Black Suit Superman, and Barb from Stranger Things all get minifigure treatment, and they are, admittedly, absolutely stunning.
They’re also incredibly rare. As such, these things are painfully pricey on the aftermarket.
For all that these minifigures are incredibly cool, for most LEGO collectors, their mere existence is really just a tease. They are like, to quote Alanis Morisette, “meeting the man of my dreams…and then meeting his beautiful wife.”
When The LEGO Group ditched regional exclusive sets in favour of just dumping everything out worldwide, we all benefitted from easier access to, for example, some really nifty Chinese New Year sets.
We can only hope that the kinds of minifigures that would previously be SDCC exclusive will now be more widely available too.
