At Daisy Chains Fields, philanthropist Melinda French Gates doubled the festival’s initial $10 million donation to ten nonprofits that benefit women and girls.

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival donated $20 million to ten organizations that benefit women and girls—thanks to a $10 million donation match from philanthropist Melinda French Gates, Rodrigo announced Aug. 29.

“I really believe that giving women the tools to decide their own futures and live healthy lives free of violence and discrimination is the most effective tool we have at changing the world for the better,” Rodrigo, 23, said on stage in Irvine, California, ahead of her closing set. “And I don’t know many people who represent that idea more than Melinda French Gates.”

Daisy Chain Fields, a music festival inspired by Sarah McLachlan’s 1990s woman-centric Lilith Fair, featured a one-day lineup of women and queer artists, including Chappell Roan and Doechii. Rodrigo also performed, and she was joined by Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, and McLachlan herself.

The stars came together to raise awareness and money for ten nonprofit partners, including Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, the National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH), and Planned Parenthood, among others. The $20 million will be distributed evenly among the organizations and will likely boost some of the groups’ budgets: Black Mamas Matter Alliance’s 2024 revenue was $2.7 million; in 2025, NIRH’s revenue was $4.2 million.

“Long after the lights go down from this festival, the organizations doing this work will keep doing it because you all are here,” French Gates told the crowd to raucous applause after joining Rodrigo on stage.

The festival came after a series of recent federal setbacks for reproductive and sexual health funding, and four years after the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization repealed federal abortion protections.

Reproductive health-care giant Planned Parenthood is still financially recovering from a lapse in Medicaid reimbursements despite the fact that its exclusion from the federal health insurance program expired in July 2026. And the Trump administration was slow to announce application criteria and deadlines for Title X grants, which provide federal funding for family-planning services like birth control and STI testing and treatment. Experts predict that foot-dragging will create a funding gap for thousands of reproductive-health clinics nationwide.

Rodrigo has long advocated for reproductive rights and gender justice. During her 2024-2025 GUTS tour, she donated part of the tour proceeds to local chapters of the U.S.’ National Network of Abortion Funds, Women’s Shelters Canada, and Women Against Violence Europe. In 2022, Rodrigo condemned the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision at her Glastonbury Festival set, naming five of the justices who ruled against abortion access and bringing Lily Allen onstage to sing Allen’s “F**k You.”

“It’s easy to be discouraged by all of the sadness and regression of women’s rights in our world today,” Rodrigo said during an Aug. 28 press conference. “… I hope Daisy Chain can be a celebration of the love and determination that these women are putting into making this world a better place.”
