Ryan Gosling had the best surprise for Eva Mendes on her birthday!
To promote his latest film, Project Hail Mary, the 45-year-old actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday — the same day his longtime partner turned 52 years old. And in honor of her birthday, Ryan asked the audience to surprise Eva, who was hanging out backstage, and sing to her! Aww!

Fans know the couple is notoriously private! In fact, we last saw them together on a red carpet in 2013 for the New York City premiere of The Place Beyond The Pines, the movie in which they met and fell in love while filming. So, her stepping out for The Tonight Show is a HUGE deal! The moment marks their first joint public appearance in over 10 years! Wild!
And Ryan knows Eva may not be too happy about it! As she walked to him, the actor joked:
“Here’s the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow.”
LOLz! Once on stage, Evan took a moment to thank all the teachers and students in the audience before asking:
“You’ll cut all this, right?”
To which Jimmy replied:
“No! This is your birthday!”
Then out came the marching band from North Bergen High School in New Jersey to perform Happy Birthday for Eva! And, of course, Ryan and Jimmy joined the crowd in singing and clapping along to the song before confetti rained down! Watch the sweet moment (below), which Jimmy made sure to point out to Eva was all The Notebook star’s idea! Ha!
