April 17, 2025:

Karla Sofia Gascon has landed her first role after her controversial social media posts resurfaced.

If you didn’t know, in January, Karla‘s tweets about the George Floyd protests, among numerous other topics, resurfaced. The backlash caused Netflix to pull back its support for her after she was nominated for Best Actress for Emilia Perez at the 2025 Oscars. She has since apologized for the posts.

Now, the 53-year-old actress will star in an upcoming psychological thriller called The Life Lift. The film will be directed by Vincent Gallo, who will also play the main character.

The Life Lift is about a man named Gabriel (Gallo) who encounters mysterious post-it notes in the elevator of his New York apartment. “These messages order him to commit atrocious murders of three other tenants who, in turn, want to kill their next-of-kin,” the plot synopsis reads, per Variety.
