Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Brings Massive Upgrades to Gen 2 Glasses—Here Are the Differences

Meta just gave its most popular pair of smart glasses a fresh-generation upgrade, and the improvements go well beyond a simple spec bump.

Announced alongside a much larger lineup of AI glasses at Meta Connect, the new Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 brings noticeable changes to design, battery life, and camera quality.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Gets Massive New Features

Meta unveiled Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 as the next generation of what the company calls the world’s best-selling AI glasses, part of a much larger announcement that also introduced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Meta’s first-ever pair of audio-only smart glasses. The Gen 3 glasses focus on refining the formula that made the previous generation popular, packing in more capable hardware while keeping the design slimmer and more comfortable to wear.

Buyers now get 27 color and lens combinations spread across three styles, including Aviator, Wayfarer, and a brand new cat-eye frame called Zena. Meta is also releasing a limited edition Aviator in a vintage-inspired colorway to mark the 90th anniversary of the original Ray-Ban Aviator design.

Alongside Gen 3, Meta introduced Ray-Ban Meta Audio as a separate, more lightweight option built for people who mainly want music, calls, and hands-free access to Meta AI without a built-in camera. At just 43 grams, these audio-focused glasses come in two styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, spanning 23 color and lens combinations.

They offer up to 12 hours of battery life on their own, extending to roughly 48 additional hours with their included charging case, and are priced starting at $349, with preorders open now ahead of an October 13 shipping date.

What Are Its Improvements Over the Gen 2?

Gen 3 now delivers up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge, an hour longer than what Gen 2 offered, along with professional adjustable temple tips designed to give wearers a better overall fit. Meta also added a new customizable action button, giving users instant access to Meta AI without needing to rely on a voice command every time.

Audio and camera quality both received meaningful upgrades as well. A new six-microphone array now cuts more than 90 percent of background noise, keeping calls and voice commands clear even in windy or crowded environments.

On the imaging side, Gen 3 steps up to a 12-megapixel camera capable of shooting 3K Ultra HD video and introduces a new dynamic photos feature that lets users pick the best frame from a shot rather than being locked into a single capture.

Later this year, Meta says its AI glasses will become the first consumer devices able to record and play back video in Dolby Atmos with 360-degree spatial sound.

How Much, When to Expect Gen 3 Glasses?

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 is available now through Meta’s website, with pricing starting at $449.99. The launch comes as part of Meta’s broader push to expand its AI glasses lineup, which the company says will include more than 100 different style options across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses by the end of the year.

Meta also confirmed that Muse, its personal AI agent, is being integrated into its glasses lineup, giving wearers hands-free help managing daily tasks, calendars, and long-term goals directly through the device.
