October 21, 2026:

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk revealed his intents this past Monday to give away his personal shares in the company to “every kid in America,” publicizing them in an announcement on X.
Claiming to be “the first of many,” it highlights the philanthropic ventures of tech companies and leaders amidst the growing anxiety surrounding AI and the narrative surrounding its risks to human employment.
This announcement follows a similar fund for “public benefit” as professed by Anthropic this past Sunday, where a portion of their shares were declared to be committed towards the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. As of now, 5% of their total shares will be committed, increasing by 2% at the board’s judgement for every 50% increase in the company value’s above a predetermined baseline.
While not being specific with where the funds from the project would go, Anthropic made their intent towards public interest clear, establishing it as a wholly-owned LLC to open up a variety of donation methods and claiming that none of their equity would be used for lobbying or political donations anywhere across the world.
The company also brought up the pressing issue of the labor market and the impacts of AI development on job security and accessibility, noting their $200 million commitment to “studying and addressing this issue” as well as the ability of the Fund to be able to increase progress on the research.
Furthermore, Anthropic also noted previous pledges towards public equity programs, including the 80% of the co-founders’ equity holdings and their match program participated in by half their employees. In their estimations, this totaled to one-fifth of Anthropic’s shares towards the “public good” apart from other additions in the event of “specific valuation milestones.”
Public philanthropic ventures such as the ones from SpaceX and Anthropic have become all the more available thanks to the recent issuing of the “Trump Accounts” program, serving as another alternative to savings accounts for minors utilizing a retirement-account framework.
Trump accounts have already been automatically issued to 60 million eligible children under the age of 18 following the roughly 7 million accounts that were opened by parents in its initial launching on July 4, 2026. Given its availability for multi-source contribution – including from charitable organizations, public fund ventures are likely to utilize such programs to dole out their donations.
