Apple has quietly expanded the list of cameras its devices can work with, giving photographers using specific third-party gear more flexibility when editing their shots.

The update touches every major platform that Apple sells, expanding a feature many creative professionals rely on daily.

Apple Is Expanding Support for 11 More Digital Cameras

Apple updated its official list of digital camera RAW formats supported across its platforms, adding compatibility for 11 additional camera models from several manufacturers, according to 9to5Mac. The update applies system-wide, meaning any compatible app running on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro can now work directly with RAW files captured by these newly added cameras.

RAW files preserve far more image data than a standard JPEG, since JPEG compresses and bakes in much of the processing at the moment a photo is taken. RAW support lets compatible apps make deeper adjustments to things like exposure and color after the fact, giving photographers more room to fine-tune an image during editing rather than being locked into decisions the camera already made.

This kind of system-level support means individual apps do not need to build their own separate compatibility layer for every camera brand on the market. Instead, once Apple adds a camera to its supported list, any app built to handle RAW files gains that same compatibility automatically across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro alike, without needing an update of its own to catch up.

Apple Now Supports Over 500 Digital Cameras

With this latest addition, Apple’s total list of supported digital cameras has grown to 562 models. Apple maintains this list separately for older operating system versions as well, allowing users on previous software to check compatibility for their own gear.

The steady expansion reflects how Apple continues updating its RAW compatibility list over time, gradually folding in newer camera releases from manufacturers. This includes Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, and Phase One as those models reach the market and gain popularity among photographers who rely on Apple’s ecosystem for editing their work.
