Aramco China Championship: Mimi Rhodes and fellow English players miss out on title as Spain’s Ana Pelaez storms to victory | Golf News

England’s Mimi Rhodes, Charlotte Heath and Annabell Fuller saw their hopes fade on the last day of the Aramco China Championship as Spain’s Ana Pelaez stormed to her second Ladies European Tour title with a nine-under round that included a hole-in-one.

Heath shared the lead with Pelaez’s compatriot Luna Sobron on 16 under after round three in Shenzhen, with Rhodes one shot back and Fuller three strokes adrift.

Fuller stared superbly on Sunday with four birdies in her first six holes lifting her to 16 under but she then registered three bogeys on her back nine ahead of a closing birdie to end up on 14 under and in ninth spot after a one-under day, six shots behind Pelaez.

With Heath only able to card an even-par 73, mixing two birdies with as many bogeys, Rhodes, a three-time winner on the Ladies European Tour in 2025, was the highest-placed of the English contingent, finishing in outright second on 17 under.

The 24-year-old, who made her Solheim Cup debut in September as Team Europe defeated Team USA in the Netherlands, registered birdies at four and 17 as she signed for a blemish-free, two-under 71.

Pelaez was irresistible on the day, with her round-of-the-week 64 at Mission Hills featuring seven birdies, including three in a row to finish, and an ace at the par-three 13th as claimed her first victory on the tour since the 2022 Madrid Ladies Open.

Pelaez’s fellow Spaniard Sobron finished in a share of third place on 16 under after an even-par 73, alongside Heath and China’s Shiyuan Zhou, Ruixin Liu and Liqi Zeng.

Another Englishwoman, Alice Hewson, came 20th on 11 under.

Sakuma claims first LPGA Tour title

On the LPGA Tour, Shuri Sakuma won her first title on the circuit with a four-shot victory at the Toto Japan Classic in her homeland.

Sakuma, who had won eight times previously on the LPGA of Japan Tour, carded an eight-under closing round of 64 to reach 20 under for the tournament, with 54-hole leader Akie Iwai finishing second on 16 under after a one-under 71 at Taihelyo Club Minori Course.

The Toto Japan Classic was the final part of the LPGA Tour’s late-season ‘Asian Swing’, after the Buick LPGA Shanghai in China, BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea and Maybank Championship in Malaysia.

The tour returns to the USA next week for The Annika in Florida, live on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event from 4pm on Thursday.

Sweden’s Linn Grant won the event in 2025 after Nelly Korda had done so in three of the previous four seasons.
