Each week, Rewire News Group editors scour headlines nationwide—from lawsuits over abortion access to LGBTQ+ rights—to bring you the most urgent news in reproductive justice. Here’s this week’s latest.
Planned Parenthood endorsed Democrat Graham Platner in Maine’s Senate race. His primary run was marred by controversy around what an ex-partner called “unsettling,” rough behavior, but the reproductive org deemed incumbent Republican Susan Collins a “fair-weather feminist” for voting to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh; he later helped overturn Roe v. Wade. As abortion rights become less of a priority for midterms voters, other repro groups are focusing on high-stakes states like Arizona and Georgia.
The private health records of trans kids in New York must remain private—for now, a federal judge in Manhattan affirmed this week. She granted a temporary restraining order in a class-action lawsuit against the DOJ, which wants NYU Langone Health to hand over information about minors who’ve sought gender-affirming care there. Several hospitals have been federally subpoenaed demanding trans patients’ records. “I do not want my children’s health records anywhere near the Department of Justice,” one parent told Gothamist.
Together, we make reproductive justice visible.

Two family planning organizations sued the Trump administration last week for overhauling the Title X grant program, which funds clinics that provide contraception, cancer screenings, STI care, and family planning services to low-income patients. The changes would require grant recipients to “align” with such agency priorities as being “life-affirming” and anti-DEI. An ACLU attorney for the plaintiffs said in a statement that the changes are “an attempt to rig the system against well-qualified providers.”
