Rising costs could force Samsung to keep things mild for the Galaxy S27 next year

What you need to know

  • Rumors from the social media platform Naver suggest Samsung could “freeze” upgrades that would raise the base Galaxy S27’s price.
  • Such upgrades would be its display, as well as the phone’s cameras next year.
  • Recent rumors suggest the company could rework its cameras to fit Qi2 magnets in the Galaxy S27 series, as well as a potential UFS 5.0 storage upgrade.

Rumors have started on an overseas social media platform, claiming Samsung’s next base-level flagship could be a little underwhelming.

On Naver, tipster Lanzuk claims Samsung has turned away from certain changes/upgrades for the Galaxy S27 (via WccfTech). There’s still some uncertainty behind these rumors, but judging by the smartphone market’s current climate, perhaps there’s merit. The tipster claims Samsung “will not change” the base Galaxy S27’s camera in any meaningful way. Speculation pushes us to believe the device could look vastly similar to what we received with the Galaxy S26.

Android Central’s Take

These rumors might be disappointing to users who like the smaller, entry-level flagship Galaxy. I’d imagine this would be the result of the company trying to manage interesting next-gen phones, while also giving users something a little more “affordable.” It’s still fairly early, so we’ll have to wait a while to know how accurate these rumors are, and the Galaxy S27 will take a bad hit or not.
