June 16, 2026:

We are so excited to announce the Queer Reads book club at Books and Shenanigans are hosting an upcoming book drive drop-off (July 18th) and book sale (July 25th) from 11-4pm at 347 Cook Street for ISH’s community education program.
The book club recently read “All Boys Aren’t Blue”, by George M. Johnson. In this memoir, two themes they learned about were the consequences of social biases and inadequate sexual education. This prompted the book club to learn more about sexual education programs in our community, and this led them to us at Island Sexual Health. BTW, “All Boys Aren’t Blue” is available for purchase at Books and Shenangans with 10% being donated to ISH!
When the Queer Reads book club found out that ISH was in need of funds to continue aspects of the sexual education program, they decided to help. The plan for a Used Book Drive was launched!

All proceeds from the sale will be donated to ISH’s community education program which promotes positive sexuality and choices, prevents negative outcomes such as unintentional pregnancies, exposure to sexually transmitted infections and sexual exploitation and creates inclusive spaces where all feel seen and valued. In 2024/25, this program reached 19,022 participants at 687 workshops. Howver, in 2026, we had to suspend workshops due to loss of funding. ISH continues to run other parts of the community education program including a Youth Sexual Health Q&A text line (250-812-9374), a Youth Lived Experience as Ambassadors of Development program, and ongoing support for local educators through resources and workshops for school and community-based queer youth groups.
If you would prefer to donate directly to ISH, you can make a tax-receiptable donation through our Canada Helps page
Special thanks to Queer Reads Book Club and its fabulous members, Books and Shenanigans, and the donors and buyers. We’re so humbled by your support. Happy Reading!!
